Be Happy.  Be BRIGHT.  Be You!

The Bright School is a private, independent elementary school in Chattanooga, Tennessee, founded in 1913 by educator Mary G. Bright.

Bright begins with Junior Pre-Kindergarten (age 3) and goes through 5th grade.

About Us

At the heart of our early childhood educational approach lies an eco-literacy curriculum that fosters a connection between children and the natural world. Through hands-on experiences such as gardening, playful engagement in mud kitchens, invigorating trail walks in the woods, and the exploration of the abundant green spaces across our campus, our students embark on a journey of discovery that transcends traditional classroom confines.
At the heart of our educational philosophy, Bright's social and emotional foundation is anchored in the CARES standards: Caring, Assertiveness, Responsibility, Empathy, and Self-Control. These five social and emotional principles are not only taught and modeled but also serve as the guiding expectations throughout our community.  We teach and model the CARES principles while also addressing social media and technology dynamics in a way that resonates with the developmental stages of our students from preschool through 5th grade.

Our math curriculum cultivates a profound comprehension of mathematical concepts, mastery of crucial skills, and the adeptness to tackle intricate problems. Our Heggerty Bridge to Reading program employs systematic phonemic and phonics instruction, infused with the latest advancements in the science of reading. We also integrate reading and writing workshops into our curriculum, tailoring literacy instruction to accommodate the unique needs of each student. These workshops are thoughtfully structured to provide a consistent and foreseeable environment, granting our educators the opportunity to engage with individual students or small groups, addressing their specific requirements to optimize growth.
